Rainn Wilson believes his Discovery character Harry Mudd would fit into Strange New Worlds and wrote to a creator, asking to be included in the show.

Rainn Wilson would like to reprise his Star Trek: Discovery role as Harry Mudd in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Harry Mudd has been one of the most popular recurring characters in Star Trek ever since his introduction in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Mudd’s Women” in 1966, where he was played by Roger C. Carmel. The smuggler and conman has since made several more appearances in the Star Trek universe, most recently played by Wilson for a couple of episodes in Discovery.
